Black Water

click…click

I have photographed  many rapids, mostly in Lapland, where waters are crystal clear. This is a small river close to our family place in Kainuu, Central-Eastern part of Finland.  Here water is dark, almost black.  I like it in the pic, perhaps more than clear waters.  Even if water is dark, this river is a very good brown trout river.  M son fly fished a 3 kg trout here from some yeas back.  He still shaking when telling about that catch.

Most people like this type of forests which are not too dense. The forest is located in Inari, Lapland, it is untouched by man, trees are hundreds of ears old, covered by tree lichen and the ground is white of lichen.

Bikers at get-together rides are rather grown up.  These people have both money and time.

I was hiking in Lapland at a desert lake Paunu together with my friends.  The lake is very beautiful, no people, crystal clear water, lots of fish and very interesting looking gravel and stones in the bottom. Here is a good example, rectangular stone with golden stripes at the both ends.

Neiden River in Norway

I have fished at Neiden river in Norway with very little success again.  There was a cold night (+2 C) when all river was covered by fog.  I took the pic around midnight handheld using ISO 12800 with my new Canon EOS 1DX.  I made some noise reduction by Neat Image and look – there is very little noise!

Tomorrow I will head to a desert lake Ii in Northern Lapland to hike and fish for some days.  Looks that we will have calm days, so I hope for some nice pics again.

The Merlin (Falco columbarius)

I went to Ritakoski to shoot rapids.  I heard a voice of a  bird and noticed it to land on a stone in the river. Now is my first opportunity to test auto focus of my new camera (Canon EOS-1D X), I thought. I was waiting for about two hours it to go airborne.  And when it did, the settings in the camera were wrong.  Anyway, I got one pic where the merlin is flying.
