Another factor is the size of waves, usually more is better. Picture from yesterday.

Green Point Lighthouse, Cape Town

140103-kapkaupunki-3957The Green Point Lighthouse was the first solid lighthouse structure on th South African coast, first lit on 12 April 1824. It looks still very solid.
